Only because I’m a member of the Royal Resorts do I want to share with others what we’ve learned to be true: If an offer is made “on the beach” seems too good to be true, then it is. This goes for buying jewelry or buying a tour with all of the extras.
Why we fell for one of these “on the beach” tour scams after years of warnings – I don’t know why but we did.
The young man that presented himself to us seemed most friendly and familiar in our place on the beach. He was dressed in clothes that represented an established tour company and he asked if we might be interested in taking one of the many tours of the area.
He joined us for a discussion of what he had to offer. His prices were less and his plan gave us all the goodies we wanted.
There wasn’t any language barrier; he knew exactly what we were requesting. When I said we wanted to go by van and in a small group with a private guide; etc, he brought forth a card showing the picture of a van. “Yes” that is what we would be traveling in and “Yes” we would be stopping for lunch at a nice resort. Also, “Yes” it would be an “Express” tour getting us back to our resort by the early afternoon.
He smiles, we talk and had pictures together – he seemed to have what we wanted for less money than what we were going to pay. What could be wrong? He gave us a card with his name on it and we were told what to take and what time to be ready in front of our resort for pick-up of the morning of the tour. We gave him a nice deposit (the card showed we had paid this amount; plus what was owed). Then with a wave he is gone!
A van picked us up at the designated time. All seemed good. We were taken to a place where we would be part of a large group being transported on buses and wouldn’t get back until late that night. It would be everything that we didn’t want and it was going to cost us more. We declined further action for this tour.
Oh, there were excuses why the switch; too many to mention before we had to find our own way back to our home resort.
The very first thing we did when getting back to the Royal Sands was to stop by and see Roberto at the Thomas Moore Center and schedule the tour we wanted. It was so hassle free, so easy and I knew we would get more than what we paid for.
For years he has made our tours exactly what we wished them to be; we never ever had a disappointment. Why we tried someone else I don’t know…especially from someone on the beach. I know where to find his counter in the Royals – he doesn’t have to send scouts out onto a beach to round people up for a tour.
This all happened to my family and me. Lucky I knew what we wanted and we didn’t get on that bus. Just don’t listen to the persons “on the beach” selling whatever –“on the beach” selling all isn’t what it appears to be.

Hello;
I just wanted to send a thank-you letter to the staff at Thomas Moore.
I was at the Royal Islander last week and enjoyed two tours booked through your company. One to Cozumel and the other to Tulum and Xel-Ha. Phillipe was a wonderful guide. He gave us lots of information and he got soaked in the rain just like we did.
The other reason I am writing this letter is because when I arrived at the airport to go home, I realized that I didn't have my purse. I went to the people from Thomas Moore transportation at the airport and explained that I thought I had left my purse on the shuttle bus that took us to the airport. One of the gentlemen there (I didn't get his name) immediately got on the phone/radio to contact the driver (Roberto) to let him know the situation. Within 45 minutes I had my purse back and got onto my flight on time. I was so very upset and I didn't even think to give the person at the airport any kind of cash reward or anything! I gave him a hug! (I'm sure he would rather have received cash!). Anyway, I just wanted to let your staff know how much I appreciated them. It was my first time to Mexico, and I love the people. We will be back for sure.
Thanks so much!
