A hidden treasure lies just off the north coast of the Yucatán in the Gulf of Mexico; the island of Holbox is a magical spot for an unforgettable day. It is a haven for nature lovers, fishermen and visitors who like to get off the beaten track. From your resort, we drive north to the port of Chiquilá where we board the small boats that will take us across the Yalahau Lagoon to begin our adventure. Part of the Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve, the lagoon and the surrounding mangrove forest and marshes are rich in wildlife.
You’ll see cormorants and osprey during your crossing to the island and you may even be lucky enough to spot wild dolphins. Then it’s on to Isla Pasión where a small and shallow lagoon and a sand bank make it possible to walk to the island of Holbox.
This area is a feeding ground for flamingos and a variety of other birds including herons and egrets, pelicans, cormorants and frigate birds.
